This is the original Growing Up Italian, written by my father, Michael Stramiello and narrated by the legendary Robert Loggia with old films of our family. This piece was played at the end of "Our Contributions - The Italians in America" It was directed and edited by Marino Amoruso, which first aired nationwide on PBS in 1999, capturing the heart and heritage of the Italian-American experience all around the country. Our fathers were tired of the negative stigma around our beautiful culture and knew how much we've contributed to America and they wanted to help change that narrative and they were the first to do it! Over the years, many have tried to recreate or repost this documentary often without credit to its creators. Today, I’m proud to share the remastered version, done by myself and Marino's son Brendan who is now an editor. We got together and knew it was time to honor our father’s work and bring it back with respect and dignity for everyone to enjoy as it was meant to be seen. This film is more than a documentary, it’s a love letter to family, tradition, and the stories that shape us. Whether you grew up Italian or simply appreciate the warmth of heritage and community, this is for you.
