Swabbing Robot Testing Continues

Our Vit Plant test engineers continue working to program swabbing patterns of a low-activity waste container in the Low-Activity Waste Facility finishing lines. During operations, before a glass-filled container can leave the facility, a series of swabs are taken of the container to verify the external contamination levels are below that required for offsite transportation. This is achieved through the use of a robot preprogrammed to wipe swabs over different areas of the container. The swabs are then returned and posted outside the cell via a posting machine and glovebox and then hand-monitored for contaminants. The video shows the robot touching different parts of the container to “learn" exactly where the container is located.
