Various of vehicle on fire with fire officers attempting to put out fire STORYLINE: Riot police fired tear gas and water cannon in an effort to disperse a crowd of angry demonstrators lobbing bottles and paving stones in protest at conservative Nicolas Sarkozy's presidential election victory on Sunday - one of a handful of incidents reported around France. Several hundred youths described by French television station BFM TV as "militant anarchists" hurled bottles, stones and other objects at police. Police armed with shields repeatedly fired tear gas but the crowd taunted them for more than three hours before dispersing. Small groups then moved toward the nearby Gare de Lyon, breaking shop windows and overturning cars along the way. The protesters hid behind a barricade of burning garbage cans. Police headquarters said three officers, a riot police officer and a spectator were injured by various projectiles. A man, apparently a photographer, was seen lying on the ground with a bloody face. Police did not say whether arrests were made. The Paris square is often a starting point for strikes and serves as a hub for popular demonstrations. Security was reinforced on election day with police visibly patrolling the streets of the French capital and maintaining a discreet presence in the suburbs where many housing projects are located. In a separate incident, a police union said firebombs targeted schools and recreation centres in several towns in the Essonne region just south of Paris.
