We lived on Waiheke for 6 months, and absolutely love it. Most New Zealanders will know how amazing this little island is, but if you have never been - it is a hidden gem that will blow you away. Waiheke Island is a 35 minute ferry ride from Auckland City, and boats leave from the Auckland CBD every 30 minutes. The journey out to the island gives you a taste of the beauty that is waiting for you! Home to over 80 boutique vineyards and breweries, the island is a popular option for day trippers, but there is so much more than that to discover. Whether you want a beach day, a hike through seriously stunning scenery, or if you're an art lover keen to explore the islands art trail, there is something for everyone. We have always loved Waiheke for being a little eco-lovers dream. Locals care about the environment and are sustainably minded.
