W.H.O. warns against use of Indian cough syrups linked to Uzbek deaths | ‘Substandard’

The World Health Organization has recommended that two cough syrups made by Noida-based company Marion Biotech should not be used. This was after they were found to be linked to the death of 19 children in Uzbekistan. Issuing a medical product alert on Wednesday, the WHO described the cough syrup as 'substandard medical products' manufactured by Marion Biotech and are products that fail to meet quality standards. This comes days after Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya put a stop to all medicines at the plant citing a report from Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation.
