Then it was held back to capitalise on the 2002 Toronto Film Festival, and subsequently distributed to the wider public in Japan. The DVD and soundtrack album CD were released in 2003. Online you will see all of these dates given for the movie. In Japan it's usually (but not always) seen as a 2001 movie, the year it was made and first screened. That's the date that I prefer to use, because it is technically a 2001 movie and that's the copyright date displayed onscreen during the end credits. Outside of Japan it's usually registered and presented as a 2002 movie.
