No, No, Nora - Foxtrot The Brunswick-Balke-Collender Company – 2512 - A Gus Kahn, Lyricist Ted Fiorito and Ernie Erdman, composers Phil Ohman and Victor Arden, pianists Issued 1924 A piano duet version of the comic song made famous by Eddie Cantor about a suspicious wife, and her put-upon husband’s constant reassurances that there is nobody else. A foxtrot is a 4/4 time dance tune with a smooth, even rhythm. Phil Ohman and Victor Arden were one of the pre-eminent piano duos of the 1920s and 1930s, known for their virtuosity and sophisticated arrangements. This record was recorded November of 1923, but apparently not released until the following year. Formed by the merger of three companies, Brunswick-Balke-Collender was the largest producer of billiard and saloon equipment and furniture in the world in the late 1890’s to early 1900’s. In 1913 the Chicago based firm started manufacturing phonograph cabinets, and soon created their own phonograph brand and records. By 1923 it was the third largest record producer in the US, and was issuing new records daily. The Great Depression forced the company to sell its record division to Warner Brother Pictures, which eventually sold the Brunswick label to the American Record Corporation.
