The conditions are perfect, and from the very first dives the area feels alive with schools of small fish, seabream, and even a couple of dusky groupers. After a strange miss on a grey mullet, I keep pushing forward, knowing the place has more to offer. 🔱 Soon the action picks up. Curtains of small fish surround me as I set up ambushes, and it isn’t long before amberjacks appear. I land two solid catches while dentex also show up in the distance, though they remain too wary for a shot. A large school of salemas drifts by, creating a magical scene, and later I manage to secure a nice white seabream with a long shot. Along the way, I also spot a bright Mediterranean red sea star and an empty pen shell — small details that make the dive even more special. ⚠️ The setup and movement of the small fish keep me excited, convinced a predator could appear at any moment. But instead of the usual suspects, I spot something I’ve never seen before in these waters: a lionfish. Knowing how invasive and destructive they are, I carefully unload one band and take a close-range shot. Their venomous spines require attention, so I remove them with my knife before securing the fish. It’s worrying to find them here, and the sight leaves me concerned for the local reef fish populations. 🐟 To close out the session, I add a parrotfish with a quiet, well-placed dynamic ambush before heading back.
