(not an ad) I am a big fan of platformers, it’s honestly my favorite genre. Growing up I almost exclusively played “jumping games” as I called them, Mario, Sonic, Crash. But I grew up mostly in the early Wii era, so there are a TON of platformers I've missed out on from retro consoles. It’s no secret that Donkey Kong Country is a fan favorite. I mean, when I was a kid I played the Wii revival, Donkey Kong Country Returns, and loved it a lot. So I wanted to take a look back at one of the most influential games in the platformer genre, with a little bit of a twist. There is an online community, called RetroAchievements that adds answers the question, “What would it be like if retro consoles had achievements” much like the ones that were introduced in the Playstation 3 and Xbox360 era. The website links to your favorite retro emulators and seamlessly adds extra challenges to your game. It’s a great way to experience your old favorites, or try out some games you might have missed. And this time I decided to check out Donkey Kong Country. Here is how this is going to work, I am going to play through the game as I would normally on a first playthrough, and track how many of the 71 achievements I get from the set, then I am going to take a look at what I have left, break the achievements down into categories, and complete all the achievements to master the game.
