Check out Patsy's real patient story about her beautiful results. Robert Langdon, MD, is triple-board certified in Dermatology, Cosmetic Surgery and Facial Cosmetic Surgery. A graduate of the Oregon Health and Science University School of Medicine, he completed his residency in dermatology at Yale-New Haven Hospital in 1984. He was certified by the American Board of Dermatology in 1984, and was a member of the full-time faculty of Yale University School of Medicine, in the Department of Dermatology, from 1984 to 1990. At Yale, Dr. Langdon conducted clinical research on advanced surgical techniques. The ExpresS-Lift is a minimum-incision face-lift (the skin incision is only about half the length of that of traditional face-lifts), and the resulting scar is less conspicuous. This procedure provides an overall lift to your neck and the lower two thirds of your face. Compared to a traditional facelift, The ExpresS-Lift is less invasive with fewer complications and a much faster recovery. The ExpresS-Lift is particularly well suited for physically healthy patients who have sagging of the lower facial and neck areas. These changes are the result of gravity causing the soft tissue layers (fascia, muscle and skin) to stretch. The face lift suspends these droopy tissue layers and repositions them to where they were ten or twenty years ago. This lift results in a more youthful face and neck profile. Results are expected to persist for ten or more years after surgery. In healthy patients an ExpresS-Lift can be performed at any age and can deliver remarkable results. Procedure The ExpresS-Lift procedure is designed to improve the most visible signs of aging and restore a more youthful appearance to the face and neck. The procedure can improve the appearance of sagging facial skin of the lower face as well as jowls and loose neck skin. The emphasis is on lifting sagging fascia in a more vertical direction than is used in conventional facelifts. Gravity is the cause of sagging and is a force that pushes straight down. Lifting in a more vertical direction results in a natural look and avoids the obvious “wind tunnel” or “swept back” look of traditional facelifts. In most cases Dr. Langdon uses a minimal length of skin incision that is relatively short compared to traditional facelifts, resulting in an inconspicuous scar. Only local anesthesia is used during an ExpresS-Lift. The local anesthetic affords the following advantages: the procedure is painless, there is very little bleeding, and subsequently little bruising and swelling (thus a rapid recovery). Similar to a conventional facelift, an ExpresS-lift rejuvenates the lower two thirds of the face and neck. The ExpresS-lift also lifts the cheeks (mid-face region), thus improving the nasolabial and marionette folds. Unlike “mini-facelifts” that only tighten the skin, the ExpresS-Lift is a real facelift, with tightening of the connective tissue layer beneath the skin (this is called the “Superficial Musculo-Aponeurotic System” or SMAS). Because of the tightening of the SMAS, it is also necessary to remove some of the skin just in front of and above the ear. Minimal tension on the skin reduces visible scarring. Results The most remarkable feature of the ExpresS-Lift is the rapid recovery, with relatively little bruising and swelling. The key is Dr. Langdon’s use of local anesthesia, which constricts small blood vessels during the procedure. After an ExpresS-Lift facelift, some numbness, bruising and swelling will occur. Bruising typically takes 7-10 days to fade. Many patients will return to work within one to two weeks of their ExpresS-Lift procedure. Every surgical procedure carries certain risks and the potential for complications. The potential complications associated with the ExpresS-Lift procedure may include the following: bruising, swelling, sensitivity to anesthesia, asymmetry, infection, nerve injury, and poor healing. Benefits of ExpresS-Lift Face Lift include: Smoother neck area. Reduced jowls Refined jawline and chin Improved appearance of sagging lower facial skin Restoration of the lower face and neck to a more youthful appearance
