Champion Bomber of the 8th Air Force B24 Liberator "Witchcraft" Celebrates 100th Mission

Our father, Joseph G. Dzenowagis, was a navigator on the B24 Liberator "Witchcraft" of the 790th Squadron 467th Bomb Group of the 8th USAAF. In this short video without sound, except for added music, Witchcraft celebrates its 100th mission as the champion bomber of the 8th. Dad flew five missions on Witchcraft after the 100th. Witchcraft ended up with a remarkable 130 missions without an abort, injury or death. As the Witchcraft legend grew, British adults and children would see the plane off in the morning and wait for its return later in the day. So would German spies. Witchcraft was also famous for its unique ground crew, known as the "League of Nations Ground Crew" for its talented members with diverse backgrounds. You will see them featured here. The "Famous B24-Witchcraft: the Enchanted Liberator" book by Perry Watts, completed after he passed away by his son, James Watts, is the most comprehensive publication about this legendary bomber. The American Library Memorial to the 2nd Air Division in Norwich, England premiered this archival short at their 10-day 80th anniversary celebration of Victory in Europe in September of 2025.
