New spoken word piece from my new book, with music by Paul Asher. Old footage of Ladakh. / shanebordoli https://shanebordoli.wixsite.com/shan... You're never alone with a strand of thought with which to weave a poetic tapestry . . . But come on Shane, give us a taste of India I hear you cry! Well, last night, I was nearly attacked by wild dogs (again). And I had a mouse running around my shoulders in some guest house kitchen. Sometimes it's good to get back in touch with nature. I was riding a local bus today through the renowned mountains that look like the surface of the moon when an Israeli guy flagged us down. His moped had broken down, so on top of the bus it went, alongside the other extra baggage. My taste in snow-capped mountains is getting refined in the Himalayas, what with the gradients of colours leading up to them in Ladakh (due to the oxidation of the rocks on different mountains apparently). As for India as a whole, Indians work on a different frequency. Pick any guy living by the side of the road and play a game of chess against him and you will lose very quickly. That's if you can even play chess. If not, try playing them at Ludo, for money, and you will go home with empty pockets. Here it is always a fluid situation. And it may come to fruition at some unspecifieded moment in the future. Or not at all. The three answers of yes, no and maybe all acting concurrently in their potentialities. Even that makes it sound too black and white. Just trying to catch a local bus or train can be several day-long affairs, a strange mix of Douglas Adams, Kafka and Orwell. Getting money from a cash machine can take all day as they all have a logic of their own, seemingly maintained by one short of an infinite number of monkeys. Electricity is often out and running water can be sporadic; there is something to be said for being forced to appreciate the basics in life. Spirituality abounds here. Rishikesh for example, is full of generic yoga drones on a "yoga teacher training" course that amounts to no more in reality than a basic fitness instructor certificate. I can't blame them they're just young and all want to fuck each other; or more likely their yoga instructor, guru, swami or sadhu who will say "I see something very special in you" (most probably his cock). If you look far enough behind, they're Just corporate money-making setups. Apart from Sivananda ashrams, I never hear only good about any of them. But you'll stop growing as a person if you stay working the same 9-5. The kingdom of heaven, Buddhahood, or just plain old Peace of Fucking Mind really does lie within. Western life is just not conducive to any non-material aspirations. Even if it only provides a spiritual AA at times, if you have a thinking problem, step 1 of 12, try India. It's a way station for the soul. Shane Bordoli Ladakh summer 2019. PS thanks Steve Beverly for the generic drones inspiration from the council fun factory ;-)
