Survivor, a postgraduate student, was abducted Sunday night while sitting with friend in parked car. Breakthrough in the investigation emerged from surveillance linked to a week-old vehicle theft and a stolen iPhone. Police linked the suspects using CCTV footage from an earlier stolen TVS 50 vehicle case. Surveillance footage showed 3 men near Coimbatore Airport matching suspects from the TVS theft case. Clues suggested the trio likely travelled toward Mettupalayam after the Sunday night sexual assault. During the assault, suspects also stole the survivor’s friend’s iPhone before fleeing the scene. Police alerted second-hand mobile shops across Coimbatore and Mettupalayam to trace the stolen iPhone. 1 accused approached a shop to sell the phone, triggering an immediate police alert. Police arrested him after shopkeeper delayed transaction; two others were waiting nearby on outskirts. During questioning, suspects led police to hidden knife location but tried to escape custody.
