IT NEVER CEASES TO AMAZE ME WHEN SOME ELECTRO MAGICIAN DECIDES TO PROGRAM A CONTROLLER TO HAVE A GREEN "READY TO RUN" LED ON FOR "AUTO" WHILE HAVING A RED "OFF" IN ALARM BLINKING LED TELLING YOU THAT THE GENERATOR CAN'T RUN. THE GREEN AND RED LED'S ON THE END OF THE UNIT ARE LIT. THEN YOU TRY TO USE THE MENU TO FIND THAT THE SELECTION YOU WANT TO MAKE DOESN'T BLINK TO INDICATE THAT IT'S THE CURRENT CHOICE TO ENTER - NO, ITS THE ONE MISSING FROM THE MENU THAT'S THE CURRENT CHOICE YOU CAN ENTER. SO MEMORIZE THE MENU. WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR WAS THE SELECTION FOR "RPM" BUT I DIDN'T FIND IT AVAILABLE IN THIS MENU. IF YOU ENTER THAT YOU CAN READ THE RPM WHICH SHOULD MAINTAIN "3600" FOR CLEAN/CORRECT POWER. SO, I STARTED THE GENERATOR AND LISTENED FOR HOW IT CRANKED OVER THE ENGINE. THE BATTERY AND SPARK PLUGS SEEMED FINE. I DIDN'T GET AN "OVERSPEED" OR AN "OVERSPEED ALARM". THE STEPPER MOTOR HOWEVER WAS STRUGLING AS IT TRIED TO HUNT FOR AND MAINTAIN 3600 RPM SO I WANTED TO TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AT THAT. WHEN I OPENED UP THE RIGHT END OF THE CABINET TO CHECK THE STEPPER MOTORS CONNECTION TO THE CONTROLLER I FOUND OUT THAT IT WAS I WHO INSTALLED THE NEW BATTERY. "SURPRISE!" THAT SERVICE CALL WAS UNDER ANOTHER NAME THOUGH, SO I DIDN'T SEE A PREVIOUS REPORT TO LOOK AT OR TAKE WITH ME. (I DID RECOGNISE THE ADDRESS BUT ONLY THAT THE STREET WAS FAMILIAR.) NEW OWNER? YES, AN OLD BATTERY WILL GIVE YOU A "SHUTDOWN SWITCH ERROR CODE 2800" ALARM. I REPLACED IT AS PART OF THE REGULAR SERVICE SCHEDULE A. THE STEPPER MOTOR CABLE WAS PLUGGED IN CORRECTLY TO THE FRONT OF THE CONTROLLER SO I UNPLUGGED IT TO DROP IT DOWN WHERE I COULD OHM OUT THE INDIVIDUAL WIRES TO STEPPER MOTOR ITSELF. FROM THE RED WIRE TO THE ORANGE WIRE I READ .857 MEG OHMS. FROM THE RED WIRE TO THE YELLOW WIRE I READ 28 OHMS. FROM THE RED WIRE TO THE BROWN WIRE I READ 11 OHMS FROM THE RED WIRE TO TH BLACK WIRE I READ 11 OHMS THE RED TO THE ORANGE WAS ENOUGH TO TELL ME TO REPLACE THE STEPPER MOTOR BUT I READ THEM ALL. I'M OUT IN THE FREEZING COLD WHILE IT'S RAINING SO I MIGHT AS WELL DO IT RIGHT. I EVEN WENT BACK TO READ THE HIGH RESISTANCE A SECOND TIME JUST BECAUSE I WANTED TO MAKE SURE. I LOOK FOR 10-12 OHMS TO EACH AND EVERY WIRE. ERROR CODES; 1200, 1205 AND 1207 ARE RPM RELATED ALARMS. ERROR CODE 1200 WILL SHUT DOWN THE GENERATOR WHEN THE RPM's EXCEED 4320. ERROR CODE 1205 IS A LOSS OF THE RPM COUNT ALL TOGETHER. ERROR CODE 1207 IS THE CONTROLLER BELIEVING THERE IS AN OVERLOAD ISSUE. SOMETHING KEEPING THE ENGINE FROM RUNNING PROPERLY. LIKE; FUEL. SPARK PLUGS, AIR, FIELD OVERCURRENT, ALTERNATOR ISSUES, OR OVERLOADED BECAUSE THE GENERATOR IS JUST TOO SMALL TO GENERATE THE AMOUNT OF POWER NEEDED. I DON'T COMMENT ON SOME THINGS AS I WONDER IF ANYONE ELSE MAY SEE AND COMMENT. LIKE THAT EXPANSION COUPLING COMING OUT OF THE WHOLE HOUSE TRANSFER SWITCH. ALWAYS A GREAT IDEA WHEN YOUR CONDUIT GOES INTO THE GROUND WHERE FROST CAN PICK IT UP AND SHOVE IT INTO THE TRANSFER SWITCH - BUT NOT WHEN THE PVC PIPE IS STRAPPED TO UNISTRUT MOUNTED ON THE HOUSE. SO HOPEFULLY THE CONDUIT IS BURIED AT LEAST BELOW THE FROST LINE. THAT FLNC GOING INTO A FMC FITTING AND HAVING ELECTRICAL TAPE TO KEEP IT FROM FALLING OUT. THE TRANSFER SWITCH IS LABELED "MAIN DISCONNECT" BUT I FOUND AN ESSENTIAL CIRCUITS PANEL MOUNTED AFTER THE METER BEFORE, SO NOW I ACTUALLY LOOK INSIDE. ANYWAY, I'LL ORDER THE STEPPER MOTOR AND HOPE FOR BETTER WEATHER TO INSTALL IT. VIDEO A PART 2 TO SHOW HOW THAT GOES. I DID DO A VIDEO ON A 11KW THAT I REPLACED THE ENTIRE THROTTLE BODY WITH THE STEPPER MOTOR ON IT - IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED. (GENERAC 11KW OVERCRANK ERROR CODE 1100 WHICH ALSO HAS A PART 2) IT CALLED FOR FREEZING RAIN SO AT LEAST I DIDN'T SEE THAT.
