Brace Yourself For This Updated Build | Mid Century Modern Bookcase

In today's video, I show how to build a mid-century modern bookcase. Building this mid-century modern bookcase or bookshelf was a blast. I used a lot of different woodworking techniques in this project. The bookcase is made using walnut hardwood as well as walnut plywood and features Blum soft close drawer slides for that added touch. The drawer's front face matches the long front leg angles, adding a refreshed look compared to other designs' typical square box. This piece also features a ton of edge details, from rounded edges to edge banding. The shelves are held securely using dados that prevent the piece from racking. Subtle curves in the rails complement the walnut wood grain and add some visual interest. I designed this piece with inspiration from the 1950s and 1960s. I love this era in furniture design because it boasts both simple lines and a timeless quality. This is a feature that seems to have been lost in the mass production of modern furniture. This build really harkens back to a time when furniture was made to be both stunning and a long-term investment. I had a blast building this piece, and I hope you can learn a little from the video!
