Our teacher –a marine engineer is teaching us how to start a diesel engine and check the performance of the combustion. The blast sound at 1′12″ is because we forgot to close the indicate cock of No.1 cylinder. The maximum continuous rating of this engine is 4350kW@167rev/min. Large low-speed diesel engines use 2.5MPa compressed air for starting.When we start the engine, the starting air will enter the cylinder through the starting valve on each cylinder and push the piston down. When the engine speed reaches 12rev/min the high pressure fuel oil will be injected into the cylinder,but they won't fire immediately so some fuel oil will remain in the cylinder.When these oil gets fired,the pressure will rise sharply.If the indicate cock is opened,the highpressure exhaust gas wil rush through it and making a very loud blast sound.
