When we purchased Pipi for $200, we were told she was a perfectly healthy, full-blooded mini Australian Shepherd. Caveat: We've rescued countless dogs and horses, and we would always prefer to rescue rather than purchase, but we'd just lost a beloved rescue dog that was prone to wandering and got out of the fence and killed in traffic, so we wanted a puppy we could train from the start not to wander. Shortly after we got Pipi home, we learned she was (very obviously) 100 percent deaf, and was suffering with a gnarly case of explosive diarrhea. Since then, we've learned white Aussies (and most other breeds) are almost always deaf and/or blind. We're learning how to train a deaf puppy (it's just as easy and challenging as training any dog with all its senses) and loving her until the day she dies.
