Friendship 7 (Full Mission 01)

Please read this description: This is the first of three videos which will cover the full mission of astronaut John Glenn and Friendship 7, launched 20th February 1962. This part covers the launch and 1st orbit operations through to the West coast of the USA. Video is from the TV transmissions on the day, NASA film footage, audio and photos taken during the flight. Audio starts with the Flight Directors Loop and changes at launch to the onboard voice tapes. Therefore Johns voice is heard much louder and clearer than is sometimes heard, while ground stations are harder to hear. I have added captions and some of the TV footage into the video to provide the viewer with a reference. I would also suggest reading the air-ground transcripts while watching. This is the first of 3 videos planned for this flight. The next will cover the Stateside pass on orbit 1 thru orbit 2. All video, audio and photos courtesy NASA. Orbiter Spaceflight Simulator is used to cover parts of the mission not covered by available video footage.
