After what was a pretty good day one of the chicks escaped the from the cup of the nest and eventually got themselves stuck in the corner of the box. The parents won't feed a chick that isn't in the cup so by the time you read this it's highly unlikely that the chick has made it through the night. On top of that the female chose tonight to be the first night away from the nest. To say that stress levels are high is an understatement. The comments section of the livestream has been particularly hard to read tonight. People seem to forget that we edit between 15 and 16 hours of footage per day so we are much more attached to these birds and know them better than most viewers. To be accused of animal cruelty is a little hard to take after the amount of effort that has been spent feeding the birds, providing them with natural nesting materials, chasing away Magpies, Woodpeckers, Starlings and trying our hardest to Cat-proof the nest box! We are not watching the stream 24/7 as some think we should be. And no, the channel hasn't received a penny from YouTube. Should the worst happen tomorrow, please have a little compassion to those that have been giving the birds the absolute best chance of success for the last 10 weeks. It's been an emotional day. More tomorrow...
