Government’s neglected N$180 million building

The government spent N$180 million on an incomplete fresh produce market, a building that overlooks one of the poorest informal settlements in Windhoek. The building was set up to serve as a fresh produce business hub and to be the main center to coordinate the distribution of fruit and vegetables in the country. Construction was supposed to be completed in 2018 but the site has since been neglected. Havana residents were disappointed to hear that N$180 million was splashed on a neglected site at a time when they have been pleading for plots, and basic services such as water, toilets and electricity.
