Are you wondering how to pace smartly a marathon or ultra marathon? A good pacing strategy can make or break your ultra marathon race. Start too fast, and you will bonk. Go too slow, and you'll miss cutoff. I tested pacing strategies in 100 miles ultra marathon and providing you my takeaway today! If you feel my content as helped you along in your journey, I'd greatly appreciate your support. Please visit my Patreon: patreon.com/RunningwithSimon Pacing strategies don't need to be complex, but they can certainly have a major impact on your racing experience, and on the outcome. A bad pacing strategy can run your months of hard work in training preparing to race ultra marathon. So today we talk about 3 main pacing strategies - steady pace, banking time, and run/walk cycles. All have their place in your pacing toolbox, and I commonly use all of them. Practice will of course help you adjust these, but I think a sounded pacing strategy is particularly helpful if this is your first ultra marathon (or first time for a given distance). And to make this video more interesting - I decided to make a "little" experiment. Across the Year 100 miles and Long Haul 100 miles ultra marathon were 3 weeks apart. Given that both course are relatively flat and runnable, and that 3 weeks is enough to recover, I tested two drastically different pacing strategies - banking time vs. run walk cycles. And I share my conclusion in this video. What felt better. What was fastest. What I would recommend you try. Thanks for watching!
