Have you compared FUE vs. FUT? The Toronto Hair Transplant Clinic team break down the details. “Follicular unit extraction” versus “follicular unit transplantation”. How are they different? What are the benefits? In this video, Dr. Cory Torgerson weighs in on the FUE vs. FUT debate. Most surgeons use 2 primary methods. One method (FUT) involves the surgical excision of a long scalp piece for dissecting into grafts. The other method (FUE) uses a rotary punch tool for removing tiny grafts one by one. FUT is called the “strip method”, because the harvesting involves a strip of scalp. Both hair transplant methods are used nowadays, but FUE is the preferred choice for many. This video explains why that is, including the following: • FUE scars are so tiny; they can be virtually invisible. An inconspicuous donor site is attractive for patients. • FUE is faster with the help of digital systems that increase precision and minimize trauma. You can fill the crown and hairline within 5 to 6 hours. • FUE recovery time is faster. Swelling lasts 3 to 5 days, and the little holes close in a few days too. Scabs slough off in about a week and a week off work is enough. • Comparatively, FUT incisions are closed with stitches and take about 2 weeks to heal. FUE vs. FUT differ in healing time and scarring, but both methods require plenty of patience to wait for new growth at 3 to 4 months. Need help deciding between FUE or FUT?
