Depicting the individual patient´s anatomy only in two dimensions bears high risks of misdiagnosis and misplanning, followed by consecutive unforeseen events in surgical execution and possible failure of the planned prosthetic treatment. Overseen pathologies and anatomic variations might lead to failures in endodontic treatments, GBR-surgery such as sinus lifting and in implant therapy as well as the choice of unnecessary high invasive GBR-procedures in the maxillary and mandibular alveolar crest. Contrary, the non-invasive digital workflow based on CBCT 3D-imaging allows precise diagnosis and prevents possible failure already in the planning phase of the treatment by “backward-planning” from the desired prosthetic outcome and simulation of the entire treatment choosing the least invasive Piezotome-surgical procedures. Furthermore, the most recent CBCT-technology even allows a precise determination of the individual patient´s bone quality to determine the number of implants needed due to the patient’s individual bone-density and -volume and if immediate loading might be possible in each individual case as proven by a randomized clinical trial. The lecture will provide a short basic evidence-based revision of current knowledge of radiographic anatomy followed by the presentation of the results of a randomized clinical trial as well as CBCT-based treatment-planning and execution demonstrated in GBR- and implant-therapy case reports. Panellists: Prof Dr Dr Angelo Troedhan, Mr Marius de Bruyn, Dr Priyesh Hira, and Mr Julien Peltier About the presenter: Prof. Dr. Dr. Angelo Troedhan is a specialist in Craniomaxillofacial Surgery with a focus on traumatology, reconstructive and cosmetic surgery of the face and with a double-approbation also a specialist in Dentistry and Periodontology. His scientific focus in the past was laser-research, since 2005 he developed patented piezoelectric surgical tools and minimally invasive surgical procedures and published numerous experimental results and randomized clinical studies regarding ultrasonic-surgical devices and surgical protocols as well as implant-systems in international peer-reviewed journals. He currently chairs the International Academy of Ultrasonic Surgery and Implantology. His most recent scientific work focuses on the development of Artificial Intelligence-based and user-friendly software tools for CBCT-based diagnosis and minimal invasive treatment-planning. He is also a permanent member of the International Biomaterial Experts Group in Switzerland and a Co-Editor of several peer-review journals in OMF-surgery.
