Understanding the anatomy of your pelvic organs is an important foundation to understanding POP or pelvic organ prolapse. "First let’s meet our organs. This is a right side-view of the pelvis for a person with female anatomy.. Here is the pubic bone in front, and the tailbone in back. At the front is the bladder. This is where urine is stored. The uterus is behind the bladder. And the rectum is located at the back. Each of these pelvic organs has a canal that exits the body. The bladder connects to the urethra, where urine exits the body. The uterus connects to the vagina, for sex and childbirth. This part between the uterus and vagina is called the cervix. The cervix is like a tiny gateway between the uterus and vagina. The rectum connects to the anus, where gas and stool, that is poop, exits the body. We chose to draw this space above the pelvic organs blank, to help keep things simple. However, this area is really filled with winding tubes called the intestines."
