In this short video, we get the chance to see the initial startup of an Electro-Motive Division (EMD) SW1200 switching locomotive, in this case, Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum No. 606. 606 was built new in December, 1954 for the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad as their number 2054. At some point, the locomotive was renumbered to 606. Eventually, it wound up under the care of the United States Navy who used it to switch cars at the Naval Facilities Engineering Command Center in Crane, Indiana until TVRM acquired it in 2015. The locomotive is equipped with a 12 cylinder 567C prime mover, and produces 1,200 horsepower. This small locomotive is one of the more versatile locomotives in TVRM's collection, being able to do almost anything and go almost anywhere the railroad needs it to go. We hope you enjoy this brief look at starting this locomotive up for a day of service on the Missionary Ridge Local passenger train.
