The Fire Triangle shows how fires start and are sustained. Fire is a chemical reaction involving three elements. For a fire to exist, all three elements must be present. The three elements are. Oxygen - Oxygen is a gas that makes up around 20% of air. Oxygen can also be found in oxidising substances. Heat - Heat is the energy necessary to increase the temperature of a fuel to the point where ignition occurs. The source of heat does not have to be enormous for a fire to start. It could be a smouldering cigarette, a spark or even a frayed cable. Fuel - Anything that burns is fuel for a fire. Common 'fuels' found in workplaces include packaging materials, textiles and waste. If one or more element of the fire triangle is removed, then a fire cannot start or be sustained. Think about how you could remove an element of the fire triangle.
