Die Ausstellung «KIMONO - Kyoto to Catwalk» stellt das traditionelle Bild des Kimonos als zeitloses Symbol Japans in Frage und präsentiert ihn als dynamische Modeikone. Die japanisch-schweizerische Modedesignerin Kazu Huggler hat sich von der Wandlungsfähigkeit und Langlebigkeit des Kimono inspirieren lassen und für die Ausstellung ein Outfit aus einem alten Kimono entworfen. Ihr Beitrag «Unstitch and Liberate!» interpretiert das T-förmige Kleidungsstück als Symbol weiblicher Selbstbestimmung und Modernität im Japan der 20er Jahre. Der Kurzfilm zeigt Kazus Beziehung zum Kimono und wie sie den kunst- und sozialhistorischen Hintergrund in moderne Mode übersetzt. Das Video ist mit deutschen und englischen Untertiteln verfügbar. The exhibition "KIMONO - Kyoto to Catwalk" challenges the traditional image of the kimono as a timeless symbol of Japan and presents it as a dynamic fashion icon. Inspired by the kimono's adaptability and longevity, Japanese-Swiss fashion designer Kazu Huggler has created a kimono outfit for the exhibition. Her contribution, "Unstitch and Liberate!", interprets the T-shaped garment as a symbol of female empowerment and modernity in 1920s Japan. The short film shows Kaku's relationship with the kimono and how she translates its art and social history background into modern fashion.
