Derbyshire Disused Railway - Great Central Railway Staveley to Arkwright, Duckmanton **Link to previous section Renishaw to Staveley - • Disused Railway Walks - Great Central Rail... 00:00 Intro 00:42 Staveley Town/Central Station history & site 05:40 The former trackbed 10:37 Duckmanton North Junction 17:21 Duckmanton South Junction and Flyover 20:28 Former Arkwright Town Station & LD&ECR line We explore the former Great Central Railway Derbyshire lines in North East Derbyshire. Starting at entrance to the former Staveley Town (Staveley Central) station, we look at what is on the site now. Originating as the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway (MS&LR), the company later changed it's name to the Great Central Railway (GCR) and constructed it's Derbyshire lines in the 1890s, before pushing south to London. Staveley opened in 1892 and closed in 1963/1964. From Staveley we follow the line south towards the junction with the LD&ECR (Lancashire Derbyshire & East Coast Railway). At Duckmanton we see a triangular junction where we find some left over evidence of infrastructure and former signal box at Duckmanton North Junction. The line ducks under the road bridge near Arkwright Town before crossing the LD&ECR. We also take a look at the site of the former railway station at Arkwright Town on the line between Bolsolver and Chesterfield Market Place stations. Nothing remains of the station these days and the trackbed is difficult to trace. I planned to film and showcase the days out and destinations my running travels took me. Mainly the Peak District and the sights and marvels of Sheffield and the surrounding regions. However due to Covid restrictions, I found a new interest in researching and exploring old abandoned places - railway lines, canal, woodland, parks to name a few. So the videos you'll find will be mainly be of those things. Of course, where possible I'll be running to my destination.
