This gravel driveway repair in Indianapolis was a great before and after. There was so much grass I wasn't even sure of where the gravel started and stopped. I used my power rake or harley rake to pulverize the gravel and bust up the weeds. When power raking is complete, I run the Vermeer 925 with a land plane to level any potholes or high areas. This makes for a very uniform finish for new crushed limestone to be spread over the driveway. Once I have the crushed limestone, the gravel driveway repair is almost complete! Depending on the size of the job, I can bring the new stone on my dump truck, or for larger crushed rock driveway repair jobs, a larger triaxle delivers the stone for faster completion of the job. Weeds are inevitable, and many of my customers prefer a weed free driveway. Before I do any work, I explain to every customer that power raking and spreading a new layer of stone on a driveway does not prevent weeds from coming back. It will require some type of weed killer, natural or synthetic, to control weeds. Also, that plastic or weed barrier does not prevent weeds either. Weeds are airborne and will grow right on top of any fabric/plastic that is installed. I would suggest not using plastic as it will prevent water from passing thru to the ground. The ideal material is geotextile fabric. This will stabilize the soil and allow water to flow thru. In this video, I am only providing the customer with a leveling and top dressing of new crushed limestone. We discussed putting the fabric down, but it is a costly upgrade to do it properly. At least 4" of material(about 40 ton of material) would need to be excavated and removed to eliminate existing weeds. Then, the geotextile fabric laid down and at least 40-50 ton of new #53 crushed limestone with dust brought in to replace the removed material. Then, it needs to be tightly compacted and a thin layer of new #8 washed driveway stone spread as I did in this video. This cost was presented to the customer beforehand, and they did not want to invest that amount in their driveway. It went from a $2,000 job to closer to $8,000-$10,000 job depending if they put the #8 stone on top. Call, text, or email me! Thanks for watching!
