Check out this amazing gravel driveway transformation in Indianapolis! The driveway was so overgrown with grass and weeds, you could barely see the stone underneath. We brought in our Vermeer S925 mini skid steer and attachments to tackle this challenging job. See the power of a proper gravel driveway repair using professional methods and heavy equipment. 👇 What We Did: This gravel driveway repair in Indianapolis was a great before and after project. There was so much grass, I wasn't even sure where the gravel started and stopped! Our Repair Process: Step 1: Pulverize Weeds I used my power rake (or Harley rake) to pulverize the old gravel and bust up all the weeds and grass. Step 2: Level the Ground After power raking, I run the Vermeer 925 with a land plane to level any potholes or high areas, making the surface uniform. Step 3: Add New Stone This creates a perfect base for new crushed limestone to be spread over the driveway. Once the limestone is down, the repair is nearly complete! Material Delivery: Depending on the size of the job, I bring the new stone on my personal dump truck. For larger crushed rock driveway repair jobs, a bigger triaxle truck delivers the stone for faster completion. Important Note on Weeds & Fabric: Weeds are inevitable, and many customers prefer a weed-free driveway. It's important to understand the reality of weed prevention: Power raking and spreading new stone does not prevent weeds from returning. You need a weed killer (natural or synthetic) for ongoing control. Plastic/weed barrier fabric does not work. Weeds are airborne and will grow right on top of the fabric. I suggest not using plastic, as it prevents water from passing through to the ground. Geotextile fabric is ideal. This material stabilizes the soil and allows water to flow through correctly. The Cost Difference: In this video, I am only providing the customer with a leveling and a top dressing of new crushed limestone. We discussed putting the proper geotextile fabric down, but it is a costly upgrade to do it right: Proper, Long-Term Repair ($8,000–$10,000 job): Excavate and remove at least 4" of existing material (about 40 tons) to eliminate existing weeds. Lay down the geotextile fabric. Bring in 40–50 tons of new #53 crushed limestone with dust to replace the removed material. Compact it tightly. Spread a thin layer of new #8 washed driveway stone on top (as I did in this video). This cost was presented to the customer beforehand, and they decided not to make that level of investment in their driveway at this time. 📞 Contact Schott Services (Indianapolis Landscaping & Driveway Repair): Website: https://www.schottservices.com Phone: 317-784-8760 (Call/Text us for a quote!)
