***UPDATE: 2/21/2025 This is a 98 vt1100c. I was still having some starting issues after all of this work and often had to use a portable jumper to get the bike started (Mighty max battery amazon) I finally put in a brand new/ old school weird shaped ACID BATTERY in for a hundred bucks from O'reilly and she starts right up every single time cold or hot. It seems the work I did may have helped but before you do all this hard work try the old school battery and return that giant bottle of Advil! (Plus the goofy new battery to amazon if you can) Mighty max my ass lol. Let me know how it goes for you and thanks for the view. Hope you get old Betsy up and running stronger than ever. It's a good feeling once she comes back to life the way a Honda should run. If you already changed your motorcycle battery with a new one and are still having issues with starting there's a good chance that the stator is bad. It's basically the alternator that keeps the battery charged while driving. It's a little bit of a process because it is encased in oil and wired through the body of the frame. Hopefully this video will help you along your process. Many people recommend changing the rectifier at the same time which is another part that connects to the stator and battery system which regulates voltage. I went ahead and ordered a new one since I found it for only 20 dollars and it's such an easy change compared to the stator. You will need a side case gasket replacement or any make a gasket type of product and new oil and a filter as you have to drain it before getting started. It seems to have fixed the problem for me which is a huge relief. If all else fails you can replace the actual starter as well. It would help to have fresh spark plugs which I have recently replaced. My bike is a 98 Honda Shadow VT1100c with around 48,000 miles under it's belt. It was my first motorcycle besides my homemade one so I am learning as I go. I believe the process should be similar for several motorcycles. I now also have a cordless jump starter in case I am not able to get the bike started. It's a nice added sense of security.
