Let's take the first steam project from ScaleTrains out for a spin! While this is a former MTH HO casting at its core, a ton of work has been done under the hood to bring this tooling back into the spotlight. The addition of blackened pilot wheels, drivers, and tender wheels look awesome! The drivetrain is smooth, with the proven ScaleTrains motor keeping things rolling. This engine is unique from most steam, since all electronics are in the locomotive. The tender is basically a massive speaker + baffle with a tender light. Crucially, I couldn't test one key thing for this video: the smoke unit. While it powered on and worked fine out of the box, this genius forgot to order a refill of smoke fluid before the engine arrived, and my previous stash was empty...So we test under normal running conditions for other locomotives. Having spent enough time around the real 611, the soundfile NAILS what the prototype sounds like when hustling around, and the control is typically good for ESU. I'm thrilled to see the passenger cars back on the market, the interiors and lighting look fantastic, and they're extremely free rolling!
