Estudio Op.60 No.1 Allegro by Matteo Carcassi - Grade 4 Repertoire for Classical Guitar

The first of a set of 25 studies by Matteo Carcassi (opus 60), this piece is a scale workout which takes us all the way up to the tenth fret (don’t tell anyone). Keep an eye out for accidentals, and when shifting out of position pay attention to the fingering I have provided. In the arpeggio section mm. 29 - 36 try to think of chord shapes rather than individual notes when first learning the passage. There are two chords to each measure in this section and you can place the left hand fingers down in those chord shapes all at once, instead of playing the notes individually. Once you are familiar with the passage you can start to place your fingers down sequentially, as this will help smooth out the transitions between each chord shape. It is a step up in difficulty from the previous pieces, but why not live on the edge?
