1977 US Open: Nancy Richey vs Lesley Hunt

Nancy Richey defeated Lesley Hunt in the third round of the 1977 US Open. This match was played on the grandstand court, and this was the last US Open played at Forest Hills. After winning this match, Nancy developed a fever and asked to have her fourth round match with Chris Evert postponed for one day. The USTA preferred to delay the match instead of having a forfeit (they did not want to waste a profitable Evert appearance), so they juggled the schedule. The USTA delayed the Evert-Richey match, and instead took one of the day matches and made that into a night match. When the Forest Hills crowd learned that they could not see Guillermo Vilas in the original day match, and would need to have tickets to see him play in the night match, they staged a demonstration and littered the court with debris. Nancy and Chris made it onto the stadium court the following night, and Evert won 6-3 6-0.
