Do I need a Therapist to Recover from Religious Trauma?

"Do I HAVE to go to therapy?" "My Trauma isn't that bad." "I can recover without a professional." These are all things that people say when confronted a question about the necessity of therapy for their own recovery. Trauma is one of those things that people have, but don't like to talk about. Or, people think they MIGHT have it, but if what has happened to them isn't as "bad" as what has happened to someone else. Add the stigma of religion into the mix, and the whole thing gets more complicated. Do you have religious trauma? I don't know. Do you need a therapist to recover from it? Maybe. This week's Ask a Therapist video will explain the benefits (and some of the limitations) to seeing a therapist for your religious trauma. Let's start this conversation. #religioustrauma #askatherapist #religion __ Kelly is a LMHC (Licensed Mental Health Counselor) in the USA making YouTube videos to inform, entertain, and empower viewers.
