Turn on CC to see the lyrics. A lighthouse keeper on a stormy Cape night battles to keep his beacon lit as a ship in peril draws near. As the gale whips the sea into a frenzy, he witnesses a tragic collision with the rocks—only to discover the ship is a phantom from a forgotten age of sail. This dramatic folk ballad tells a tale of duty, storm, and spectral mystery. NOTE: A bit of an error with editing means that there is some black screen when the song ends. Sorry about that. Lyrics (c) Marc Glasby On the Cape the wind was howling, and night was falling fast, The lighthouse keeper scanned the sea, a ship was sailing past. He saw her rigging ripped and torn, and saw her battered hull, The turning light was failing, the beam was getting dull The gale was whipping horses, white across the sea, the ocean was a frenzy, a wreck might come to be. The lighthouse light was failing, a ship was drawing near, The keeper felt the hand of dread, a waking dream of fear. He ran out to the lighthouse, and sprinted up the stairs, Two at a time he took them, and then he saw the flares. The ghostly light shot from the ship, high in to the sky, she clearly was in peril now, a beast about to die! He reached the light and saw it, the wick in need of care, he trimmed it and re-lit it, and said a hasty prayer. Outside on to the catwalk, into the howling gale, the ship came ever closer, the wind ripped at the sails. The gale was whipping horses, white across the sea, the ocean was a frenzy, a wreck would come to be. The lighthouse light was working, but the ship was drawing near, The keeper felt the hand of dread, the icy tinge of fear. A ghostly light came from the ship, a scream above the storm, He heard her strike the jagged rocks, saw her hull deform. The ship now in her death throes, smashed and torn apart, and yet he saw no souls aboard, it gave him quite a start! The gale was whipping horses, white across the sea, the ocean was a frenzy, a wreck had come to be. The lighthouse light was working now, but it was just too late, The keeper felt the hand of dread, the touch of pitch black fate. A drifting band of fog appeared, it swirled around the cape, It hovered round the dying ship, now just a blurred out shape. A final scream in to the night, the ship was there no more, and where there had been broken beams, there was an empty shore. A ghostly ship from years before had come in with the gale, a phantom from way back in time, back in the age of sail. a phantom from way back in time, back in the age of sail.
