In July 2021, South Africa was rocked by one of its most devastating periods of civil unrest. Known as the July Unrest, the chaos erupted in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng following the arrest of former President Jacob Zuma. What started as political protests quickly spiraled into violent riots, mass looting, racial tension, and destruction on an unprecedented scale. Over 350 lives were lost, and the South African economy suffered over R50 billion in damages. Cities burned, businesses were destroyed, and communities were left shattered. In this powerful reflection, eNCA Senior Reporter Dasen Thatiah and Camera Operator Nkanyiso Mdlalose share their raw, first-hand experiences reporting live from the frontlines during those critical days. Four years later, they look back on the trauma, the fear, and the courage it took to document history in real time. READ Dasen's thoughts and opinion here: https://www.enca.com/opinion-top-stor... Don’t miss this exclusive insight into one of South Africa’s darkest week — a must-watch for anyone interested in journalism, South African politics, and the human cost of social unrest. #JulyUnrest #SouthAfrica #JacobZuma #Riots #Looting #SouthAfricanPolitics #eNCA #NewsReport #Unrest2021 #KwaZuluNatal #Gauteng #SAnews #Journalism #RiotFootage #SAhistory #ProtestsSouthAfrica #ZumaArrest #CivilUnrest
