I am adding a 20 amp outlet to an existing circuit using a 12 gauge wire. This is the same procedure to add any type of outlet to an existing circuit. The key points to remember is the hot wire (black or red) will always go to the brass screw side of the outlet and the neutral wire will always go to the silver screw side of the outlet.
