Today, Capitola is also known for the colorful beachfront residences facing the beach and the Pacific Ocean. Alfred Hitchcock, who frequently visited the area inspired to direct a film called "The Birds" when he heard about an rare birds attacking incident in summer of 1961 where hundreds of birds began to attack the towns people.
