Real estate developer and CEO of GardnerGlobal, Jaebadiah Gardner recently joined “The Big O Show” to discuss his commitment to building affordable housing in Seattle and his experience as a Black developer in the city. Drawing from his multifaceted background as an author, philanthropist, entrepreneur, and filmmaker, Gardner shared his vision for development in Seattle’s Central District with the community’s purpose and history in mind. GardnerGlobal's highly anticipated $51 million Sarah Queen Project, located at the former Mt. Calvary Christian Center, is central to this vision. The development will be an eight-story apartment building offering 117 housing units, with 30% of them designated as affordable at 80% of the area median income or below. Named after Gardner's grandmother, the Sarah Queen is intended to "replant the legacy of entrepreneurs and Black women” in business, serving as a powerful counter-narrative to the “architectural trauma” through generational displacement and gentrification. In addition to the Sarah Queen, GardnerGlobal is working on a second, adjacent eight-story development at the former Joshua Center site, which will feature 100% affordable family-style units. With a total investment exceeding $100 million across the two buildings, Gardner urged the community to continue working together to build progress and positivity. “Tough times don’t last. Tough people do,” he said.
