After grabbing some strong Vietnamese coffee, I set out on a full-day adventure to visit three different underwear factories in Ho Chi Minh City. I usually hire a seven-seater car for these trips—it costs about $60 to $80 a day, and it lets me cover a few factory visits in one go. The first stop was a factory called 1979. They specialize in lingerie and underwear for both the local market and export. What stood out was their focus on high-quality products in smaller quantities. They even offer a design service—if I send them my sketches or ideas, they’ll create three samples for just $50. After a good chat with the team, I checked out their showroom before heading to the next spot. Factory number two felt more like a workshop than a full-on factory. They told me they operate four additional lines at another location about an hour away. Despite being smaller, they had a solid setup and flexibility, which can be really useful for niche production needs. We stopped by some larger, more established underwear factory on the way back to Ho Chi Minh city. This one had clear systems, production lines, and a showroom full of samples. They were geared toward bigger orders and had plenty of experience working with international clients. They also offered competitive pricing and were open to developing custom pieces. It was a packed but insightful day, and I came away with a clearer picture of the manufacturing options available here in Vietnam—each factory offering its own strengths depending on what you’re looking for.
