The bustle gown had it's ups and downs, literally. As the size of the big 1860s skirts decreased, the bustle evolved. At one point, it was nearly flat in the back with a long train. This pattern is somewhere in the middle. Sewing for American Girl dolls is almost as much fun as sewing for myself, but definitely less expensive.
