Amrita Hospital Team Performs Complex Surgery to Remove 17-kg Tumor

Suresh Kumar from Bhoothakulam in Kollam has been relieved of a 17-kg cancerous tumor in a complex surgery at (#amritahospitals) Amrita Hospital. For years, Suresh had been burdened by the tumor, which grew from his right upper arm to his chest and back, severely affecting his mobility and breathing. He was almost bed-ridden for the past one-and-a-half years. The surgery, led by Dr. Sundeep Vijayaraghavan, head of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, involved multiple departments including Vascular Surgery and Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery. The procedure required removing Suresh’s right hand and two ribs, followed by reconstructive surgery using artificial materials. After the operation on April 15, Suresh underwent follow-up treatment and rehabilitation, and was discharged on April 26. The biopsy confirmed that all margins are free of the tumor. The multidisciplinary sarcoma tumor board decided that only close follow-up is needed now.
