PAINTING CLOUDS WITH OIL PAINTS

Painting clouds with oil paints in one session - alla prima. In this video I thought I would paint a morning cloud study in oils on paper. For reference I used a photo of some beautiful clouds I'd taken in the morning. In the studio I'd glued a sheet of paper to an MDF board and that was the surface I used for this oil painting demo. This was very dry and absorbent so I added a small amount of stand oil and non odour turps medium to the paint to help it flow. Colours used were - Cobalt blue, Manganese blue, Titanium white, Lemon yellow, Cadmium yellow and Alizarin Crimson I used a filbert brush for most of the painting with a long handled round to add the slightly thicker opaque white tints.
