From the early months of the pioneering Atlanta, GA "Superstation" as WTBS Channel 17 (changed from WTCG on August 27th 1979), here's a (mostly complete) broadcast of the Spectreman episode "The Day the Earth Shook: Part 2" (Episode #16, originally aired in Japan with the title "The Retaliation of Mogunetudon!!" on April 17th 1971). One other anomaly: the TV listings in the Atlanta Constitution for this day the episode was erroneously billed as "The Day The World Ended-Part II." (Thanks as always go to our indefatigable researcher extraordinaire, Mr. Chris Tufts) As an aside, Spectreman first aired on local Chicago channels on January 8th 1979. It ran on WSNS Channel 44 for about a year and a half until it's final showing on May 29th 1980. Then it was not seen again for over 4 years until WPWR Channel 60 resurrected it starting September 3rd 1984. (here's a complete broadcast from that station: • Spectreman - "Noman: The Tragic Genius Mon... ) - not seen that is, apart from airings via cable such as you see here). It was last seen locally on September 2nd 1989 on the rebranded WPWR Channel 50. Includes: Sadly we miss the awesome opening theme song and titles as the recording comes in (from something recorded over the prior program) during a promo for Gilligan's Island Act I of the episode then commences (following 9 seconds of black) with the preamble that began each episode: "The planet: Earth; the city: Tokyo. Like all cities on the face of this planet, Tokyo is losing the battle against man's deadliest enemies: waste and pollution. Despite the efforts of local and world government, the air, the sea and the land may soon lose their ability to support life of any kind. Who will help? Spectreman." Commercials for: McDonald's (Ronald McDonald, holding French fries, spots Goblins taking a nap) Record offer for "Roger Whittaker: All My Best" from Tee Vee Records (short version; the longer version of this ad can be seen at • Roger Whittaker - "All My Best" (Record Of... ) Magnetic Batman and Magnetic Robin by Mego - "Some assembly required" (posted separately, though in lower quality, here: • Magnetic Batman & Robin By Mego (Commercia... ) Act II of episode Commercials for: Kellogg's Graham Crackos (with Herb Vigran as George the milkman and a dog that ate the newspaper) Promo for Romper Room with Miss Sally (posted separately, though in lower quality, here: • Romper Room with Miss Sally - WTBS Channel... ) Pillsbury Chocolate Chip Cookies (with kids' football team that had lost 53-0) Act III of episode and ending credits (faded out early) WTBS News Watch with Bill Tush (reporting on Pittsburgh Pirates manager Chuck Tanner announcing his intention to start pitcher John Candelaria for the NLCS Game 1, held the following night, when the recording ends) This aired on local Atlanta TV (or on Chicago TV via cable) on Monday, October 1st 1979 during the 4:00pm to 4:30pm (Eastern) timeframe. About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television: The Museum of Classic Chicago Television's primary mission is the preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s and early 80s, primarily) recorded off of any and all Chicago TV channels (or other cities occasionally); footage which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical preservation. For information on how to help in our mission, to donate or lend tapes to be converted to DVD, and to view more of the 4,700+ (and counting) video clips available for viewing in our online archive, please visit us at: http://www.fuzzymemories.tv/index.php...
