Agora Models Launches iconic SAS Jeep https://www.agoramodels.com/us/sas-jeep/ 1:8 Scale model of Willy’s MB Jeep including machine gun accessories Premium scale model company, Agora Models is delighted to announce the expansion of its military vehicles collection, with the launch of Willys MB jeep. This iconic vehicle was procured by the British Army’s Special Air Service for special operations across desert terrain in World War II and the new model recreates its distinctive features in painstaking detail. The Willy’s MB jeep was a light military vehicle first used by the Long Range Desert Group for gathering intelligence, conducting raids and guiding other special forces across challenging desert terrain. The vehicles were capable of enduring extreme conditions and extended missions and were favored due to their reliability and adaptability. At the suggestion of British Army Officer Blair ‘Paddy’ Mayne, (a legendary figure in the history of the Special Forces) the SAS procured a consignment of the American-built Willy’s jeeps for their own use. Preparing their jeeps for extreme desert conditions, they removed the canvas roof, windscreen, side screens and doors. The water condenser was attached to the front grille, having first removed all but two of the grille slats to improve air cooling. A pipe connected it to the radiator header tank. Capable of traveling 240 miles on a single 15-gallon tank, the jeeps carried additional fuel in jerrycan racks attached to the rear internal mudguards with five more cans strapped horizontally to the bonnet. The sun compass was bolted to the dashboard and ammunition, oil, water, rations and extra clothing stowed inside the vehicle. The total weight for LRDG jeeps was around 2 tons. The SAS enhanced the jeeps firepower using Vickers K Machine guns, originally designed for aircraft and favored for its high rate of fire. Single or twin-mounted Vickers K guns were mounted in front of the passenger seat, at the rear and on the drivers wing. Jeeps were also equipped with the Browning M2 .50 caliber heavy machine gun, known for its long-range effectiveness and significant stopping power; all details which have been recreated on the new model. Agora Models Willy’s MB Jeep model kit is produced in die-cast metal to give a heavy, quality hand feel, and it comes with a range of customizable accessories, including the machine guns. Weighing 5kg and measuring 43cm x 22cm x 28cm, the model comes in a 12 pack subscription allowing enthusiasts to build at their own pace. It will be exclusively available to pre-order from www.agoramodels.com from 17th April 2025.
