Chapters 00:00 Intro – Somerset’s Hidden Ridges 00:35 Montacute House – Elizabethan Grandeur 02:10 St Michael’s Hill – Norman Echoes 04:05 Ham Hill – Stones of Time 06:20 Whitcombe – The Lost Village 08:00 Closing Reflections Join me on a hauntingly beautiful hike across the ridges of Somerset, where history whispers through stone and sky. This journey begins at the gates of Montacute House, an Elizabethan masterpiece built in 1601 by Sir Edward Phillips — the man who prosecuted Guy Fawkes. From there, I ascend St Michael’s Hill, once crowned by a Norman castle built by Robert of Mortain, brother to William the Conqueror. We’ll trace the scarred earth of Ham Hill, where ancient quarries echo centuries of labour and legacy, and finally uncover the spectral outlines of Whitcombe, a forgotten village lost to time. Locations featured: • Montacute House (Elizabethan architecture) • St Michael’s Hill & Tower (Norman conquest site) • Ham Hill (millennium stones & quarry heritage) • Whitcombe (village)
