Victorian House Restoration Cleaning / Using low pressure Abrasive Blasting / Sand - Blasting, to remove paint and filler. This building was in need of re-pointing around 40-45 years ago with proper Lime Mortar, but like so many of these older buildings, these jobs just don’t get done properly. On this particular building, they just filled the mortar joints with filler and painted over them with any old thing they could find at the time. Modern plastic based paints. These building do not like being sealed up with modern paints or cement. This leads to a whole host of problems later down the line. mainly damp issues! This project was started with test blasting the building with wet Abrasive blasting (Sand Blasting) to get a more accurate idea of its condition. In my opinion, this is absolutely essential and the only way you get a true understanding of what has gone on in the past.  The blast media used, was a fine grade of crushed glass with a low air pressure & the use of a water injection nozzle / Wet Blasting or sometimes known as Dustless Blasting. What you see in the video is water vapour in the air, the media & debris is reasonable contained within this water cloud. After blasting the building, it was washed down using hot water / from a steam cleaner at about 80 + degrees Centigrade . This removes all the debris from the joints & is normally dry to the touch in about 1/2 hour. Leaving the building clean and dust free, ready for repointing work to commence.
