Capturing the essence of the sea from all possible sides, the Oceanside Villa in Chennai provides a residential recreational space with minimal maintenance requirements. Located at a distance of just 600 meters from the sea, the house is constructed on diagonal lines of a rectangular plot, giving it a shape of 2 bars with a common intersection point. These diagonal pathways provide unlimited views from all directions while also creating a few interesting quadrants within the site. The front quadrant which happens to be the entrance has a garden, a driveway and a parking area. The ground floor has a foyer connected with the living area through a bridge, that has landscape portions on its either sides and also provides a view to the swimming pool. On the inside, the double height dining not only accommodates a view to the swimming pool but also acts as an intersection between diagonal structures. The ground floor also hosts an entertainment court, a bedroom and a sculptural wall with staircase around it. The 1st floor of the house includes a family living space, 2 bedrooms, a master bedroom cantilevered over the swimming pool and a terrace oriented toward the sea. The house seamlessly puts the service areas on the back rear part in both the floors. From the orientation of the house to the placement of furniture, everything in this house has been done to capture all possible view of the sea. Watch Manikandan Natarajan from The Madras Design Works, Chennai explaining more about this in an interesting architectural project.
