Saturday, 7 May 2022 Stage 2 of the Giro d'Italia is a 9.2 kilometre time trial in the streets of Budapest. The course leads over a 1.3 kilometre climb, which is very steep, especially at the beginning. The starting podium is on Hősök tere, the Heroes' Square, which is of course a well-chosen location. The riders head towards the Danube and continue along the river. They pass the Hungarian Parliament building and turn left to cross the Danube and go back a bit on the other side. But then they turn right, up the hill to the castle. The only split time measuring point is just before the climb, after 7.3 kilometres. The line is drawn at Szentháromság tér, the Square of the Holy Trinity. The last climb is 1.3 kilometres long. The first 300 metres are particularly hard, as it goes up by 10 %.
