What happens in pregnancy is that the blood flow to the mouth of the uterus or the cervix as well as the vagina increases. You all may have noticed whether that when somebody has a running nose or a cold the nose becomes red why does that happen because there is increased blood flow to the nose and at that times the glands over there secrete a lot of mucus and that is why our nose runs . Similarly in pregnancy when the blood flow to the mouth of the uterus and the vagina increase the glands over there will secrete a lot of mucus and that is what comes out as an increased quantity of mucus discharge. So do not worry if you have increased slimy mucus discharge in pregnancy. However if the discharge is associated with itching burning sensation you need to check with your obstetrician. They need to check and see if there is any vaginal infection which is causing the abnormal discharge. Now what all can be the colors of this discharge if it is curd like whitish then it is likely to be a fungal infection which is easily treatable and your obstetrician will give you the simple treatment which is safe after the first trimester of pregnancy. Closer to the delivery date women may have different colours of discharge. There may be a little bit of pinkish or reddish discharge that may indicate that the cervix or the mouth of the uterus is becoming soft and it is getting ready for you to go into labour. So a small amount of reddish pinkish discharge gives you a signal that you may go into labour over the next few days how however if there is more blood a teaspoon or half a pad of bloody discharge it's definitely time for you to contact your obstetrician. The other colour of discharge may be greenish or dirty yellow in colour. If you have any discharge like that especially closer to your due date it is imperative that you contact your obstetrician because that may indicate that the baby has passed motion within the uterus which usually does not happen and your obstetrician may take a decision to deliver you immediately.
